Where should the household gather indoors in case of an emergency?
What is a safe indoor location?Depending on the type of emergency or natural disaster, you may want to assign different safe indoor locations in your home. For instance, in case of a tornado, your basement will be the safest place to gather in.
However, in case of a chemical threat, it is best for the household to stay in an above-ground room as some chemicals may seep into basements even if the windows are closed.
e.g., Tornado: basement under the stairs. Flood: second floor
e.g., Do not use the fireplace and close all dampers. Seal all windows, doors and air vents with thick plastic sheeting and duct tape.
